WWII US & British Order of Winged Boot (walk-out boot) Bullion
A museum quality reproduction of an original British made "Order of the Winged Boot" awarded to US and other allied airmen who were shot down behind enemy lines and then walked back to their air base without a visit to a POW camp. This bullion embroidered badge is approximately 1 ½ by 1 inch and cloth covered on the back to prevent it from coming apart. This was a very highly prized unofficial insignia. It was worn on the left side under the jacket lapel because it was not official. But anyone could see the lapel raised up a bit and knew this was an airmen that made it back.
