WWII US & British Order of Winged Boot Sterling
A museum quality reproduction of an original British made "Order of the Winged Boot" awarded to US and other allied airmen who were shot down behind enemy lines and then walked back to their air base without a visit to a POW camp. Please note on the back it is stamped .925 and not sterling as were the originals. 925 is the same as sterling. Also has correct loops and not a pin back. This was a very highly prized unofficial insignia. It was worn on the left side under the jacket lapel because it was not official. But anyone could see the lapel raised up a bit and knew this was an airmen that made it back.
