WWI US Pilot Wing Sterling
This is a museum quality reproduction of an Army Air Service Pilot wing. The square center shield has been found in wings made in England during the war. Many US Pilots received training in the UK before moving to the front lines. British jewelers made wings for them the same as one here did. Duncan Campbell in his book shows a similar wing that he says he believes to have been made in the UK. This wing is made of sterling silver mounted on a brass plate and covered in wool. The wing is 3 3/34 inchers wide. The US letters are gold plated on sterling.
